You will find it in an out of the way destination. This small park is easy to miss, but is well worth discovering. Stop at the corners of Frenchman and Royal Streets to find it.
The park itself was first named Founders Park. It was then renamed years later after Washington 141st Artillery regiment, which is one of the oldest units in the military in the nation today. That regiment is paid homage here at the park and rightly so since it has seen combat in every war since the 1845 Mexican War. Visitors are often found at the park in the early spring months, right before the grand Mardi Gras celebrations take place (this is often the seen of those that come for Lundi Gras which happens prior to the larger celebration.)
When you visit, Historic Washington Square Park, walk around and stop at the booths and exhibits. Guides are often available to provide additional information and to help you through the park. There is a playground located here for smaller children to play on. Stop at the Civil War Cannon which is displayed in the park.
