Although it was started in 1955, it was a Farmer's Market for many years. Finally, in 1974 the need for a place for the many antiques was recognized so they put an addition to the building of the Farmers Market. A year later, the first Special Antiques & Collectors Extravaganzas was held in Kutztown and it was no small deal. This extravaganza consisted of 200 dealers all set up their antiques and proceeded trading and buying amongst themselves as well as with the public. This first antique showing was so successful that it was deemed a necessary tradition for everyone in the business of antiques and collectibles, whether buying or selling. Local people in the area as well as tourists look forward to the weekends when they can get to the Antiques Market. Even more exciting than the weekly antique sales are the occasional special events like the Antiques & Collectors Extravaganza.
Renningers hosts the Antiques and Collectors Extravaganza 3 times a year at Kutztown. As many antique dealers as you see on the weekends, the Extravaganza brings even more. These are huge gathering places for hundreds of collectors and dealers from all over the world. The exhibits are set up either in two pavilions or outdoors under tents. The shows are held on the last Thursday, Friday & Saturday in April, June & September behind Renningers Antiques & Farm Market. The admission for the show is $15 for all three days. The dealers are great with the public, always willing to answer as many questions as possible. They allow the public all the time they need to look a their treasures.
